Restoring Mobility, Renewing Dignity: A Community-Centered Physical Disability Fitment Camp in Maharajgunj, Yasodhara & Narainapur
Physical disability should never define the limits of a person’s potential.
With this belief at its core, Prerana Physical Rehabilitation Center (PRC), Lalbandi, in close coordination with RAIN, successfully conducted a four-day Physical Disability Community Visit and Assistive Device Fitment Camp across Maharajgunj, Yasodhara, and Narainapur Municipalities from 9–13 January 2026.
This outreach initiative was more than a service delivery program—it was a step toward inclusive development, social equity, and restored independence for some of the most marginalized individuals in the community.
Reaching the Unreached: Community-Based Rehabilitation in Action
Many people living with physical and neurological disabilities in rural and semi-urban Nepal face persistent barriers—poverty, limited health services, and lack of access to appropriate assistive devices. Recognizing this gap, the camp was designed to bring professional rehabilitation services directly to the community.
A dedicated multidisciplinary rehabilitation team conducted clinical assessments, functional evaluations, and personalized device prescriptions—ensuring that each beneficiary received support tailored to their daily-living needs.

Beneficiaries represented diverse age groups and ethnic backgrounds, including Madhesi, Dalit, Muslim, and Brahmin/Chhetri communities—reflecting the camp’s strong commitment to equity and inclusion.
Assistive Devices That Enable Independence
Mobility is freedom. For individuals with physical impairments, the right assistive device can transform everyday life—restoring autonomy, dignity, and participation.

The most commonly prescribed and distributed assistive devices included:
- Wheelchairs – for individuals with stroke, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy (DMD), severe osteoarthritis, and progressive neurological conditions
- Walking sticks & auxiliary crutches – for unilateral weakness, post-fracture recovery, and balance impairments
- Walkers and rollators – especially for elderly beneficiaries and children requiring enhanced stability
The distribution pattern reflected a high prevalence of mobility-related and neurological disabilities, reinforcing the urgent need for accessible rehabilitation services at the community level.
The Pulse of Rehabilitation: Clinical Flexibility
True rehabilitation is never rigid. One of the most unique aspects of this mission was its adaptive response to clinical changes. Because human health is dynamic, our team meticulously re-evaluated beneficiaries during the delivery phase. When a patient’s condition had deteriorated, we pivoted—upgrading walking sticks to wheelchairs or providing auxiliary crutches to ensure no one was left behind with an inadequate tool.
This commitment to 100% device delivery or clinical closure ensures that every individual tracked by our team reached a final, functional resolution.
Looking Forward: The 45-Day Benchmark
While the camp was a resounding success, it also served as a vital learning ground. Moving forward, we are committed to aligning our systems with the WHO-recommended 45-day delivery benchmark. By shortening the window between assessment and delivery, we aim to prevent secondary complications and maximize the life-changing impact of every device provided.

These improvements will further enhance functional outcomes and long-term impact in future interventions.
